Jennifer Barton from Fisher German LLP is participating in the YMCA Sleep Easy Event 2013, a national fund-raising event which involves sleeping rough to raise awareness for young homeless people in the midlands whilst raising vital funds to support YMCAs' work with young people in the area. From 7:00pm till 7:00am a cardboard box and piece of polythene will be her only shelter and protection whilst sleeping out in the open on one of the coldest nights of the year.
Working for a firm of Chartered Surveyors, Jennifer has a keen interest in property and has the privilege of marketing some of the best properties in the area. As a result, she was keen to sign up to the challenge of experiencing one night out in the open without the luxury of shelter.
Jennifer says “It is difficult to comprehend that in the 21st Century not everyone has access to housing. Not only is the YMCA Sleep Easy event a humbling opportunity to experience the harsh reality of life without a home, it is a great way to raise awareness of youth homelessness and support the YMCA in their continued hard work supporting young people living in poverty”
The YMCA are particularly concerned about prospects for our young people, especially those that have few qualifications and little or no work experience - these are the young people, perhaps, most likely to be living in poverty and at greatest risk of homelessness. The Sleep Easy event will raise funds to help support young people build a future. The event will take place in Sutton Coldfield on Friday 1st March 2013; Donations are welcomed and can be made here.
