ALEX Kay blasted an unbeaten 157 as Little Stoke’s Sunday side claimed the winning draw against Caverswall, in the Stone and District league.
The latest visitors to The Sid Jenkins Ground elected to bowl and a youthful Little Stoke team began impressively.
Despite the loss of an early wicket, skipper James Sutherland and Alex Kay relished the opportunity to bat on a good track and were soon entertaining a thrilled crowd.
The pair built a superb partnership of 123 for the second wicket until Sutherland was caught behind from the bowling of Greg Phillips for 65.
Harvey Collins (17) and Greg Faulkner (30) made valuable contributions as Kay raced to an excellent century.
The hosts declared on 285-3 from 36 overs, Kay finishing with an outstanding 157 not out, including 23 fours and 3 sixes along the way.
The run chase was always going to be challeng- ing for Caverswall but they set out to frustrate the hosts and successfully held off the Little Stoke attack as Greg Phillips(50), Kallum Crawford (49) and Craig Lancaster (46) were at the heart of the battle.
Little Stoke eventually claimed the winning draw as Caverswall finished on 167-5 from 54 overs.
Best bowling for Little Stoke came from 14 year- old Alex Shaw with 2-15 from four overs.
