STAFFORD parliamentary hopeful Kate Godfrey branded the report ‘a massive downgrade’ for the hospital.

Ms Godfrey said however the report was spun it represented a massive loss of services in the county town.

“Most Mums in Stafford will not give birth to their children in Stafford, sick children will be sent to Stoke-on-Trent and badly injured people won’t be seen close to home,” she said. “The TSA process has cost over £7 million so far, and all people in Stafford have got is a downgraded Hospital.”

“The administrators at Stafford Hospital say that they have listened: they haven’t listened; they have just tried to buy time.”

Ms Godfrey said the Government were trying to stop people fighting back against changes like the ones planned in Stafford.

“Clause 118 of the Care Bill that is currently going through Parliament will allow the Government to simply overrule the decisions of local Health Bodies,” she said. “The obligation to listen to local communities is under attack.
