Stafford Rangers 1 Ashton United 2

A LATE double strike from play-off hopefuls Ashton United denied already-relegated Stafford Rangers in their penultimate home game of the season.

The first period saw chances limited, before Rangers finally broke the deadlock on 73 minutes.

The experienced Ian Craney slid a superb pass into the path of young substitute Saul Henderson and he beat visiting keeper Paul Phillips with a low drive.

But Rangers' lead lasted only seven minutes when Ashton got back on level terms. The home defence failed to clear their lines and Chris Baguley fired home.

With four minutes remaining there was a further blow for Rangers when Gary Gee's cross was turned in by Dale Johnson.

Over the Easter period, Rangers visit Trafford on Saturday before rounding off their home programme against Nantwich Town on Easter Monday (both 3pm).

Rangers' final Evo Stik Premier fixture of the season is away to Whitby Town on April 26.
