BURTON Manor A took advantage of Amasal B’s free week to steal a march on their fellow early season title rivals in the Stafford Ladies Bowls League.

The Manor made it seven straight victories with a 6-2 win at Penkridge as A Burge and J Rennison won their doubles 21-6.

Manor lead the table by five points from Amasal B who have a match in hand.

Third place Little Stoke CC missed a chance, slipping to only their second defeat of the season, 5-3 at fourth place Greenway B. Best for Greenway B was P Simpson (21-11), while A Willatt (21-14) replied for the Stone based team.

There was a first league success for Amasal A as they defeated Greenway A 5-3. Showing good form for Amasal A were R Cartwright and K Biffen with a 21-8 score.

Burton Manor B claimed their third league win of the campaign, running out 6-2 home victors against County Officers, thanks to H Hancock (21-10). It was win number two for Victoria Park who inflicted a 7-1 defeat on visiting Stafford Ladies, with J Ivens picking up a fine 21-2 score.

In the £600 George Pritchatt Memorial Ladies bowls competition at Chadsmoor, Heather Rowe and Yvonne Needham carry Stafford hopes.

The event takes place on Sunday (June 8) with a 10.30am start and is sponsored by Mel Evans MBE, Lynn Pritchatt and Barry Booth. The eventual winner will go home with a cheque for £240 and the Lynn Pirtchatt trophy. Rowe takes on Jenna Goth (Pilling) in the first round, while Needham opposes Liverpool player Lynsey Gorman
