THE continual wet weather is causing a major headache for one local football league.

Over the past few weeks, the Stafford and District Sunday League has lost many fixtures to the conditions and secretary Peter Fowler said this week: “This is now getting a nightmare.”

Only three matches went ahead this week, including Strollers Reunited’s visit to AFC Thistlebury in the Staffs FA TB Williamson Cup.

But luck was against the Stafford based side as they crashed out 4-1. In the Lichfield Charity Cup, Holmcroft Titans went down 5-1 at Rugeley United.

Just one clear match got the all clear and this saw Perkins Social run out 4-1 winners at Riverway B.

Matches involving Brocton, Stafford Town, Eccleshall and Stone Old Alleynians also fell victim to waterlogged pitches , but FC Stafford did go ahead on the 3G all weather pitch at Rowley Park.

The Sunday League fixture card for Januart 26 is: Staffs FA Sunday Trophy quarter final, Horns FC v AFC Black Lion.

Burt Premier Cup quarter finals, Met Bar FC v Woolpack A, RC Morrison v Star and Garter.

Sunday Bowl R2, Bear and Phesant 05 v Cross Keys, FC Gnosall v Rifleman Joiners, Kings Arms v Staffs Bull, Princess Royal v Woolpack B, Rangers Exciles v Riverway A, Seighford v Royal Oak, Yarnfield Labour v Rangers Social.

League: Div 1, County Officers v Stafford Celtic.

Div 2, AFC Eagle Eccleshall v Sachmos Greyhound, Horns Athletic v FC Pegasus, Tap and Spile v Werder Brocton.

Div 3, Great Haywood v Owlett Jaton, Riverway B v The Yard, Strollers Reunited v Perkins Social.

Div 4, Holmcroft Titans v AFC Stafford Boro.
