A RAILWAY bridge has been damaged after it was hit by a lorry.

The A51 on Butterhill Bank near to Stone had to be shut after a road traffic collision yesterday.

A Staffordshire Police Spokesman said: “We received a call at 12.35pm after an Iveco Lorry was in a collision with a railway bridge on the A51 Burston in Stone, just less than a mile from Aston Marina. No one was injured in the incident but the road was blocked off.”

A Network Rail spokesman said: “We were alerted at 12.50pm to a vehicle that had struck the bridge.
