ACCUSED Joseph Moscicki has been remanded in prison as he awaits trial over the killing of a pensioner.

The 22-year-old appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court today - via video link - dressed in a plain grey jumper where he spoke to confirm his name.

Moscicki is accused of murdering pensioner Bernard Smith, whose body was found slumped at the junction of Shakespeare Road and Wordsworth Avenue in Stafford’s Highfields in the early hours of Christmas Day.

The defendant, of Gorse Ride North, Finchampstead, Wokingham, was arrested shortly afterwards and charged with murder along with failing to provide a specimen of breath for analysis.

A preliminary hearing will be held at Stafford Crown Court on January 17.

Moscicki is likely to enter his plea during a hearing on March 21.
