A RUGELEY man was stabbed in the chest just hours after ringing in the new year.
The 46-year-old, believed locally to be Wayne Rushton, is thought to have turned-up on a neighbour’s doorstep with a blade still in his chest.
Following the attack, at around 8am on New Year’s Day, he was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire.
Police then secured the scene in Penkridge Bank, Rugeley for forensic examinations and arrested two men.
They were later released without charge.
A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: “The injured man was taken to hospital by West Midlands Ambulance Service where his condition is described as stable and not life-threatening and he was admitted for observation.
“As a result of initial enquiries two local males were arrested and they were later released without charge.
Nobody else is being sought in connection with the investigation.” Mr Rushton was reportedly a business partner at the U Bar in Cannock.
In 2006, Mr Rushton and his family were attacked by raiders with crowbars.
