ONE of Stafford Borough’s longest-running horticultural celebrations returns to a village pub this weekend – and a mashed potato-eating competition is just one of the attractions.
The Haberdashers Arms Potato Club Show is now in its 67th year but the humble spud is not the only star.
There are classes for flowers, vegetables, jams, preserves and cakes during the weekend-long event at the pub, located between Adbaston and Knighton, near Woodseaves (postcode ST20 0QH).
Trophies will be presented on Saturday night and cakes will be auctioned from 7.30pm, followed by the mashed potato eating competition.
The remainder of the produce will be auctioned on Sunday from 7.30pm by local charity auctioneer Frank James.
Last year’s show broke fundraising records, enabling organisers to donate £250 to Woodseaves’ campaign to pull in £10,000 for Prostate Cancer UK and £250 to Katharine House Hospice.
