A MEMBER of Stafford’s Apex Swimming Club has secured a Midland title.
Amy Grant, aged 14 years, was victorious in the 100m freestyle junior trophy at the Midlands Short Course event, held at Stafford Leisure Centre.
Grant touched first with a superb time of 59.51 seconds in the final, gaining her the junior trophy.
Among the other star performers was Tom Derbyshire who swims for Royal Wolverhampton SC and Stafford Apex.
At what proved a busy event, Derbyshire picked up no fewer than three gold medals.
These came in the 200m breaststroke, 1500m freestyle and 400m freestyle, in the U15 age group.
He also picked up five bronze medals for 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley (IM), 200m butterfly in the under-15 age group.
He then went on to take in two open events and again took third places in the 400m IM and 400m freestyle.
Stafford Apex were also delighted to receive a letter from Jeremy Lefroy MP following his visit to their gala, at Stafford Lesiure Centre, in November.
Mr Lefroy commented on the “excellent standard of swimming, the efficiency and friendly spirit of the club and the commitment of the youngsters and the volunteers.”
Club chairman, Andy Key, said: “Everyone is very thankful for Mr Lefroy’s support to the club.”
