MILFORD Hall cricket coach Chris Elsley has been rewarded for his outstanding services to grassroots cricket.
Elsley and 15 other coaches were invited to attend the washed out first one day international against Australia at Headingly Cricket Ground where he was given his award by former West Indies fast bowler and cricket legend, Michael Holding,
Coaching junior cricketers at Milford Hall for the past ten years Elsley is a Level 2 coach and many of the young players who are now performing well in Milford’s senior teams started their cricket under Elsley’s guidance.
He has also coached the Junior Girls at Milford for the last few years and has spent a lot of time and effort encouraging the girls to play and developing their skills.
This season, he has also taken on the coaching of the newly formed Ladies team at the Club.
Commenting on being at Headingley, Elsley said: “I was very surprised to get the nomination and so it is a proud day.
I have to thank the people who I have worked with in the game.”
Commenting on the Sky Sports ECB Coach Education programme, Elsley said: “I qualified a few years ago, but the game needs this kind of help as it encourages more coaches and develops players.”
Elsley was given the exclusive opportunity to attend the one day international as part of the Sky Sports ECB Coach Education programme.
Fifteen coaches met with Holding at Headingley, all of whom were being acknowledged by the programme’s ‘Reward and Recognition’ scheme.
