STAFFORD Town under-11s finally got their 2014 programme under way, but slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Milford Wanderers.
Pythons started strongly and took the lead through Sam Hackett, before Milford struck back with a three-goal blast.
In the county girls league, both Town Tigeresses and Lionesses under-11s were in action for the first time this year.
Unfortunately the Tigeresses conceded three goals in each half against Wyrley Meekats, finishing on the wrong end of a 6-0 scoreline. But there was better news for the Lionesses as they earned a hard fought point in a 1-1 draw against Wyrley Pumas.
In difficult conditions the tireless Libby Vincent set up early chances for Town's Holly Atkins, Becky Fitzjohn and Mia Patterson.
Lucy Butler and Anais Bullock defended well for Town, while Beth Taylor excelled in goal. Fitzjohn gave Town the lead just before the break, but the Pumas denied them a victory when snatching a late equaliser. Bullock picked up the player of the match award.
