New police chief for Stafford and Stone

STAFFORD and Stone have a new police chief.

Chief Inspector Steven Smith has taken over as Stafford Local Policing Team (LPT) Commander from Chief Inspector Jane Hewett who has moved to the role of local policing superintendent in the north of the county.

Ch Insp Smith joined Staffordshire Police in 1998 and has experience in numerous front-line and specialist roles including local policing in Rugeley, Cannock, Lichfield and Uttoxeter, CID and firearms.

In 2009 he held a secondment position with West Midlands Police as the regional lead for investigating foreign national criminality.

Steven was most recently based in the Force CID and worked on a project team to redesign processes and the structure of the force’s Investigative Services department.

He said: “I’m really looking forward to getting to know local residents and partner organisations across Stafford, Stone and surrounding areas.

“It will be great to build on the good relationships that exist across the LPT as we continue to reduce crime and keep local communities safe.”
