£700,000 refit for leisure centre

Written bySarah Marshall

RUGELEY residents aiming to boost their fitness this year will get extra help from a £700,000 investment in the town’s leisure centre.

Work is starting soon on the new state-of-the-art Profiles Health and Fitness Suite at Rugeley Leisure Centre.

The suite will be housed in a 130sq m extension to the current gym and supplied with more than 70 pieces of the latest Technogym Wellness equipment including iPod docking stations and integrated TV screens along with Powerplates, core and stability equipment and free weights.

The improvements are the third phase of a £2m investment programme by Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust ( WLCT ), the company awarded a 10-year contract to manage leisure and cultural services on behalf of Cannock Chase Council last year.

There has also been a £400,000 investment in a new fitness suite at Cannock’s Chase Leisure Centre and more than £100,000 spent on a new 3G artificial turf pitch at Rugeley Leisure Centre last summer.

The build and refurbish- ment is due to be completed at Rugeley by early June. The current gym facilities will move into part of the sports hall from mid-March.

Transferring the equipment could see the gym close for two days but members will be notified closer to the time.
