A DOG abandoned by its owner in a Stafford phone booth has been put to sleep after being identified as an illegal breed.
A spokesman for the charity told the Newsletter sadly they had been forced to put Roma to sleep.
“Roma was identified by a police dog legislation officer as a Pit Bull Terrier a breed that falls under the Dangerous Dogs Act,” she said. “As a banned breed, therefore sadly, she had to be put to sleep.
“She did have a history of aggression as well.”
She said the RSPCA was calling for the Government to make changes to current dog control legislation which the charity believes persecutes dogs depending on breed rather than emphasising the importance of responsible ownership.
