Applications open for Staffordshire secondary school spots

Written byBy Robin Scott

PARENTS across Stafford can now apply for secondary school places for their children in September 2013.

The intensive process of matching places to pupils has now begun with the county council taking applications from now until Wednesday, October 31.

County Councillor Liz Staples, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “Getting their preferred school is important to parents and the county council strives to meet people’s requirements whenever possible.”

She stressed because of the amount of work that went into organising the process, it was paramount applications were received within the deadline.

“Having so many people apply online is great, as this is something we wholeheartedly encourage in the interests of speed and efficiency,” she said. “It also means parents no longer have an anxious wait for the post to arrive since an email will be received on national offer day, March 1 2013.”

Last year, Staffordshire’s admissions team matched 94 per cent of parents with their first choice of secondary school last year compared to 85 per cent nationally.

Parents are encouraged to choose three preferred schools in order to provide the best opportunity of success.
