LIBRARY chiefs have launched a competition inspired by the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to get children reading.
Forty-three libraries are already participating in the Big Diamond Jubilee Read, through which youngsters collect “reading miles” for each book they complete.
These “miles” allow participants to “travel” around the Commonwealth on a wall map, with those who complete their journey being crowned Diamond Readers.
Children also have the opportunity to write to peers elsewhere in the Commonwealth about their favourite books.
