BURGLARS broke into two homes in Stone and stole an air rifle, large amounts of jewellery and a mountain bike.
Thieves forced their way into properties on Newcastle Road between 9am and 1pm on Monday. From the first house they took a gold bracelet of linked flowers, gold signet ring with the letter J, yellow gold eternity ring with three solitaire diamonds and a silver ring with an oval mother of pearl type stone. They also stole an antique yellow gold ladies dress watch with hexagonal face, silver sixpence ladies ring and ladies diamante brooch with the letter G.
From the second they stole a silver Playboy necklace, gold ring with three diamonds, a blue GT I drive mountain bike and a Webbley and Scott air rifle.
Detectives are appealing for information from the public. A number of residents reported a man acting suspiciously between 10am and 11am. He was knocking on doors asking for directions and is described as white, in his mid 20s, slim, around 5ft 10ins and wore a grey three-quarter length jacket.
