Phoenix Distribution Services (PDS) in Dunston, is searching for new recruits to work in programming, system analysis and design, software testing and project management.

With an HQ in Germany and 15 depots across the United Kingdom alone, Phoenix is the second largest firm of its type in Europe - with bases in 23 countries across the continent.

The company has 146 distribution centres and had a turnover of £19.68 billion during 2010/2011.

As part of a two-year, full-time apprenticeship beginning in September, new staff will combine work experience in Dunston with study towards recognised professional qualifications.

Project Office Manager Jo Lawson said:“It’s a great opportunity for individuals to get paid while you learn. During our previous recuitment campaigns we realised there was a gap in skills for our marketplace and felt apprenticeships were the best way to develop our workforce.” Craig Allen, 20, from Wildwood, said he has benefitted from visits to other Phoenix sites throughout the UK during the first year of his apprenticeship with PDS.

“I gained a really good overview of the company and its customers,” Craig said.

“The advantage of an apprenticeship with a large, well-established organisation like Phoenix is that there are so many openings for career development and progression within the business.” Full details of the PDS apprenticeships for ICT professionals are on the website of the National Apprenticeship Service.
