A STAFFORD expert fears only a small number of people have heard of a new Government green policy which could award them cash loans to stay warm.

The Government is offering long-term loans for up to 25 years to help residents pay for measures, including loft and wall insulation, boiler upgrades and renewable technologies such as ground source heat pumps, solar panels for hot water and solar panels to generate electricity in a package worth up to £1,000 per home.
Under the scheme householders can take out a loan with the Green Deal Finance Company, a non-profitmaking organisation backed by the Government, to spend on energy-saving improvements to cut carbon emissions and keep people warm while the money will be repaid through electricity bills.
Residents can apply to the Department of Energy and Climate Change at www.decc.gov.uk or phone 0300 123 1234.
