Search starts to fill 900 vacancies at Amazon

RETAIL giant Amazon has begun advertising hundreds of vacancies online as it begins to fill some of the 900 positions created at its new Rugeley distibution centre.

Utto Business.jpgDozens of warehouse staff who can pick, pack and receive goods were being sought on the Jobcentre's official direct.gov website this week.

Applicants were being told the jobs were being filled by Randstad - the world’s 2nd largest HR services company who have been drafted in for the huge recruitment drive.

An area manager, support technicians and executive assistants jobs have already been advertised.

Fork-Lift truck drivers and instructors, health & safety coordinators, learning & development coordinators, assistant buyers, temporary labour management assistants and production operations assistants will also be required.

In June, Amazon signed a 15-year lease for the 700,000sq ft Flair building on the G Park business park in Lea Hall Way, which has been empty since it was built more than two years ago.

At the time, Amazon said it was looking to get the Rugeley base up and running at the end of this month.

Arthur Valdez, Vice President of Operations, Amazon.co.uk said: "We have a busy Christmas coming up and look forward to assembling a team of talented people who will play their part in ensuring that customers receive the millions of items that will be ordered over the festive season."

Amazon.co.uk currently has six fulfilment centres in UK in Glenrothes, Gourock, Swansea Bay, Marston Gate, Peterborough and Doncaster. Jobs at the centre are also being advertised at www.amazon.co.uk/careers and the US-based firm is also working  with local recruitment agencies.
