A STAFFORD church will hold a talk on the future of healthcare this weekend in the wake of the Francis Report on the disaster at Stafford Hospital.
St Mary’s Church in the town centre will welcome former nurse and current professor of dignity and care at Staffordshire University Wilf McSherry on Saturday to talk about his experiences as a nurse caring for older people and working in palliative care as well as his research work on dignity and spirituality in care.
“One of my areas of interest is in the core concepts and values of nursing and why these seem to have been eroded and devalued within contemporary nursing,” said Professor McSherry.
His talk will be chaired by former Staffordshire University vice-chancellor Professor Christine King and will be followed by the chance for questions and discussion over refreshments.
Father Graham Fowell, Rector of Stafford said: “People have been shocked by the findings of the Francis Report and its serious implications for the NHS.
“This talk will give the community a chance to come together and discuss the values and principles we would like to see embodied in healthcare for the future.”
The talk is set to start at 11am on Saturday, February 16 and admission is free.
