A STAFFORD man who set the standard for indoor play safety across Europe and a former top Stafford cop are just two local people on the New Years Honours list.
Nick Balmforth, who is also involved with Stafford Jazz Society, picked up an MBE for services to children’s play provision. Mick Harrison, Staffordshire County Council’s Commissioner for Community Safety, picked up his MBE for services to the police. He served with Staffordshire Police for more than 30 years.
Other Staffordshire residents on the MBE list revealed on Saturday included Hifsa Haroon Iqbal, for services to community cohesion, Stafford Prison officer Stephen Edwards, who lives in Rugeley, Etchinghill resident Pamela Lycett, for services to hockey in Staffordshire and Monica Moreton for her work with adults with learning difficulties through the Oak Tree Farm Rural Project near Hilderstone.
Two local parish councillors also received MBES for their community work – Glynis Ward, vice chair of Brocton Parish Council, who volunteers for Cannock Chase Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Brewood Parish Council chair Malcolm Webb, who is also involved with Brewood Junior Football Club.
