Retired factory worker Graham Gordon, 69, of Meese Road, died on April 8 in hospital after undergoing elective surgery.

An inquest in Cannock heard last week that Mr Gordon had had part of his bowel removed but the rejoining of the bowel had not worked well. He had further repair surgery but it proved too much for him and his condition deteriorated.

The cause of death was given as multiple organ failure, with peritonitis and a stomolic breakdown being contributing factors.

Staffordshire South deputy coroner Margaret Jones recorded a narrative verdict that Mr Gordon, who had other health problems, died as a result of a recognised complication of surgery.
