Counterfeit hoard found on Rugeley market man

Written byNewsletter Reporter

A MAN stopped in Rugeley with a van full of dodgy goods, including fake Ugg boots, has been fined by magistrates.

Gavel2
Tejinder Singh, 20, of Barbors Field, Bilston, was ordered to pay £1,072 in fines and costs by Stafford magistrates last week after admitting three counts of possessing counterfeit goods.

He was stopped by Staffordshire Police and a search by trading standards officers revealed a large supply of high street branded counterfeit goods, including Ugg boots and Superdry hoodies.

Singh had been seen earlier selling the goods at Rugeley market.

In mitigation magistrates were told he was only at the market for a short time and was there setting up the stall and driving the van.

Staffordshire county councillor Pat Corfield, cabinet member for communities, said: “Counterfeiting is a serious offence harming our economy and in most cases funding organised crime.

"People should not be fooled into think- ing they are getting a bargain. These goods are often shoddy, poor quality imitations.”
