Gwendoline Harvey, 92, a resident of Autumn House Nursing Home, Stafford Road, was taken to Stafford Hospital on August 30 2012 after her GP found she had fluid on both her knees.

Both knees were found to be fractured, were placed in casts and Mrs Harvey was discharged on September 1.

But two days late her GP reported she “had deteriorated significantly” and she died later that day.

The inquest head that Mrs Harvey, a retired packing glass factory worker, had suffered a number of falls at Autumn House since she moved there in 2009.

But Lesley Powell, director of care services at Autumn House, said that there had been no recent falls.

Mrs Harvey’s main cause of death was given as bronchial pneumonia but the fractures, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and osteoporosis were also detailed.

South Staffordshire Deputy Coroner Margaret Jones recorded a verdict of natural causes.
