Debate over Staffordshire Education Support Services to be webcast live today at 2pm

Written byRobin Scott

A CONTROVERSIAL debate over future education support services in Staffordshire will be broadcast live on the web today.

The proposals, which will see the county council work with an investor-partner to deliver services to around 400 schools, have already raised the ire of trade unions and local people who protested outside the County Buildings last week what they called a lack of transparency in the deal.

Now Staffordshire County Council Chief Executive, Nick Bell, has agreed to webcast a meeting where councilors will scrutinise the plans in detail live today at 2pm.

Burntwood Town Councillor and member of Lichfield District Council, Steven Norman, said he was pleased his request to broadcast the meeting had been agreed.

“It will mean that parents, school staff, governors and taxpayers from Kinver to Flash will be able to see the Cabinet Member answering questions from backbench councillors without a party whip,” he said.

Councillor Norman said he wrote to the chief executive to ask that the meeting be webcast because of the strong public interest in the matter.
