A GROUP fighting development of Stone’s Westbridge Park has enlisted a planning expert for its battle - and he has deemed Stafford Borough Council’s plan “internally inconsistent”.

Peter Weatherhead, a chartered town planner with more than 40 years’ experience, says the provision of mixed use development at Westbridge Park “is not justified anywhere in the Local Plan and the site is not defined anywhere.”
He has been appointed by Keep Westbridge Park Green and his response to the Plan for Stafford Borough was read by group member Councillor Rob Kenney at last week’s Stone Town Council meeting.
Councillor Kenney had proposed the town council answer no to the question “is the plan justified?”
“The words ‘including mixed use development’ should be deleted from the policy.
"This will make the plan sound,” Councillor Kenney said, presenting Mr Weatherhead’s comments.
But the motion was lost as Councillor Kenney’s proposal failed to win enough votes and the town council is to respond to the borough that the plan is “justified”.
