At 2am firefighters responded to a report that a van was trapped in flood water on the A34 at Meaford near the George and Dragon pub.

Upon arriving at the scene crews were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle and passed the matter on to Staffordshire Police.

At 6.30am crews from Stone and Newcastle and the water rescue unit from Newcastle were called out to the same spot.

A vehicle and one male driver were pushed by crews from the flooded area and the man was taken to hospital for precautionary checks.

Again at 8.40am firefighters responded to a call to say two vehicles were trapped in the flooded section of the road with drivers still stuck in both.

Both cars were again pushed to safety and the occupants freed.

Access to the road has now been closed until the area is deemed safe.
