REPEATED road closures are ‘killing’ businesses as the A34 in Meaford closes again due to horrific floods.
The busy road is closed again, leaving businesses including critically-acclaimed pub-restaurant The George and Dragon without customers while firefighters pump surface water into the River Trent.
Manager Nick Wright met with firefighters and highways officials today (20) to discuss the causes of and possible solutions to the problem.
He said: “It’s killing us. There doesn’t seem to be a primary cause for this problem that’s afflicted us for the last six months.
“We’re open but can’t get any trade. We can’t do much about it other than make teas and coffees for the firemen.
“We’re losing trade at the worst possible time, with a busy festive period planned. We’re fully booked but some people have had to pull out of their bookings due to the floods.”
