COMMUTERS will see traffic problems continue on Foregate Street after following an announcement repair work to a collapsed sewer was taking longer than expected.
A spokesman for Severn Trent Water said contractors had found they would need to extend their excavation to reach another damaged section of pipe as well as having to clear debris from the blocked sewer.
“We are working seven days a week to complete the repairs to the sewer, but we have encountered a number of challenges,” she said.
“Following a thorough investigation we have found that we will need to carry out further excavation work to reach another damaged section of pipe.
“We have also found that the existing sewer is blocked with debris which will be cleared as part of our work.“
As a result of these issues we will need to continue work until early April.”
She said to ensure customers had no interruption to their service a temporary over ground pipe had been installed.
“While this is in place on the northbound carriageway of Foregate Street, road users will change lane for a short section of the road.”
She said the firm were pleased to have been able to minimise disruption to road users so far working alongside Staffordshire County Council but apologised for any inconvenience the work was causing and thanked the community for its ongoing patience.
