A FOUR-CAR pile up on Stafford’s Newport Road may have occurred when a driver fell ill behind the wheel.

The collision which occurred just before 10am outside the Peugeot garage involved a red Vauxhall insignia, a red Hyundai, a silver Vauxhall Signum and a green Ford Fiesta.
A Police spokesman said: “The male driver of the Vauxhall Signum was treated at the scene for his injuries before being airlifted to Stoke Hospital, no one else was reported as having been injured.
“Early indications are that the man may have fallen ill at the wheel.”
Police, firefighters and ambulance workers all attended the incident, blocking the road off while they cleared the debris and dealt with the casualties.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and anyone with any information is urged to call 101 quoting incident number 138 of October 31.
