THE NEXT generation of Stafford and Stone’s sporting stars are being urged to apply for a grant which could fund their training, equipment and competition participation.

The scheme, supported by Sport Across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, provides funding for anyone born between September 1 1991 and August 31 2002, living or going to school in the county and a member of their National Governing Body’s Development or Performance squad, to be used toward training, competition expenses, travel, accommodation and the purchase of equipment.
Disabled athletes born between September 1 1981 and August 31 2002 are also invited to apply with priority given to those not yet eligible for other funding schemes.
A county council spokesman said the scheme, which was developed with a view to supporting athletes aiming to compete at London 2012, could now help young people in the future to aim for the Olympics, the Paralympics or other major international competitions.
