A STAFFORD volunteer is among five Staffordshire residents who have been awarded the prestigious British Empire Medal.

The awards were given for their invaluable contributions to volunteering in their local communities.
The winners were announced in The Queen’s Birthday Honours in June of this year and attended a special ceremony hosted by the chairman of Staffordshire County Council at county buildings last month.
Medals were presented by the Lord-Lieutenant on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, watched by their family and friends.
Geoffrey Hopkinson was rewarded for services to beekeeping and environmental education.
Chairman Ian Lawson said: “It was a great honour to host this presentation to honour people who do so much for our communities.”
