A BOGUS official claimed he was from the water board to snoop around a 76-year-old mans house.
The man claimed he needed to "check the valves" to get inside the property in Queen Mary Road, Hanford.
Once inside he tricked the homeowner into staying in the kitchen while he searched another room on the ground floor. However, nothing was stolen.
An investigation is underway and Staffordshire Police want to speak to anyone who saw suspicious persons or vehicles in the area at around 7pm on Wednesday (February 15).
The man is described as being white, 5ft 9in tall, of a heavy build and was wearing a hat.
