A GOLDEN wedding anniversary is cause for celebration – but a Stafford family has twice as much reason to cheer when two brothers mark the milestone in the same month.
When David and his brother Donald Johnson announced their nuptials it was purely coincidence that they decided to wed their brides in September 1962.
And to make matters doubly unusual they both married fiancées named Jean.
On September 1 Donald and Jean, who first met at Dormans Diesels where they both worked, were first to walk down the aisle at St Peter’s Church in Rickerscote.
Two weeks later David and his Jean, who met at a dance in Sandon, were wed at the now defunct Hilderstone Methodist Church. Donald had been due to be best man, but was still on his honeymoon, so a friend stepped in to do the honours.
Five decades on the four are delighted to be marking their golden milestones with a double celebration at the White Eagle Club in Riverway.
David, of Sherbrook Close, Brocton, said: “The wedding dates were a coincidence but I think my mother and father were taken aback!
“We have been very fortunate I suppose. We have had our ups and downs as everybody does, but give and take is the secret.”
