This saturday, because the Wolverhampton Road Post Office was closed a few years ago, I headed for my nearest pillar box to post a First Class letter. I had only just pushed the envelope through the slot at 10.30am when I noticed the Last Time for Collection, which had always been 11.45am, was now given on the pillar box as 9.30am. Too late! How many people are going to be out that early at the weekend? It's yet another example of the second class service being imposed on us by Royal Mail. We lost Sunday collections some years ago, now it seems as though we're losing Saturday collections as well. Perhaps if I had headed down to WHSmith, the main Post Office would have accepted my letter later than 9.30am. The next time I have an urgent letter that cannot be emailed, it will have a second class stamp on it, to go with the second class service.
