Helen Ladell I RECOGNISE that the cost of living has mushroomed and that many people are feeling the pinch.
However, when out shopping I really wonder whether people realise fully how they could save.
In the 30s and 40s, as a child, out shopping with my parents, we never thought of having coffees or meals in the town, and when going on holiday we always took drinks and sandwiches with us. I still do the same, but I have seen families obviously not rich, eating and drinking goods en route which must have cost at least £3 per person.
Also, I know people who buy sandwiches and food at lunch time, again quite costly, at least £3per person.
With a little saving, if they were to make up a week's sandwiches and put them in the freezer, one to be redeemed each working day, they could possibly save £15per week/£60per month/£720per year.
I urge you, if you are a student or eat “out” daily, do try this. You will find your savings mounting. Think what you could buy with an extra £720 to spend.
