STAFFORD-raised Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, has spoken of her fond memories for one of the town's local libraries.
The former Stafford Girl’s High School pupil described her childhood experience of Rising Brook library as “her favourite place in the world - a hushed Aladdin’s cave of adventures” in a national newspaper.
She revealed her grandfather was an avid reader, who bought her a copy of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland for her seventh birthday which inspired her love for books and reading.
During her early school days she also spent much of her spare time at the library, reading titles such as the adventures, mysteries and school dramas of Enid Blyton.
Staffordshire county councillor, Pat Corfield, cabinet member for culture, communities and customers said: “It’s marvellous to hear Carol Ann talking so positively about one of our local libraries.” “It’s even more encouraging to see that its still around 50 years later.”
