A DOUBLE-DECKER bus was gutted by fire in an incident that saw the M6 closed in both directions between junctions 14 and 15 and traffic at a standstill yesterday.
Firefighters attended the blaze which saw clouds of black smoke billowing across both carriageways and commuters stuck for several hours while emergency services cleared the area.
A spokesman for the fire service said the incident was reported at 7.32am and not closed until 9.07am.
She said when crews arrived at the incident about three miles north of Stafford services the bus was already well alight and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus had to use compressed air foam to extinguish it.
