Manager found dead on floor of hotel room

A FATHER staying at a Stafford hotel was found dead in his room, an inquest heard.

Generic Online News 4Ian Thompson, a key fleet development manager from Leighton Buzzard, was just 40 when he was pronounced dead at Tillington Hall Hotel in Eccleshall Road, Cannock Coroner’s Court heard on Friday.

He was described at the inquest as a family man and “great friend who would do anything for anyone” with more than 300 friends on social networking website Facebook.

But on the morning of July 26 2011 Mr Thompson was found on the floor of his hotel room.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene but nothing could be done to save him.

It is believed Mr Thompson died that morning as the kettle in his room was still warm and rigor mortis had not yet set in when he was found.

An autopsy revealed Mr Thompson’s heart was enlarged, in keeping with suffering from hypertension. A report read out to the inquest indicated his death was likely to have been caused by an “acute myocardial event”, or heart attack.

His cause of death was given as acute myocardial ischemia due to hypertension.

Assistant deputy coroner Louise McCabe recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
