Maternity services and intensive could be cut at Stafford Hospital

Written byGail Atkinson

STAFFORD Hospital could lose its intensive care and maternity unit, a new report reveals.

Stafford Hospital

Recommendations from Monitor’s contingency planning team just published include deliveries of babies at other hospitals rather than Stafford.

Stafford MP Jeremy Lefroy said he would fight the closure of the ICU “tooth and nail,” saying other services at the hospital relied on it.

The recommendations may take two to three years to implement with an extimated cost that could exceed £60 million.

In the meantime Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust would continue to run the hospital.

The board would be suspended once a trust special administrator was appointed
