MORE jobs are set to go at Stafford’s Shugborough Estate as county council bosses try to balance the books.

The authority plans to slash 34 jobs, with the 66 visitor services staff, who work when the estate is open during the summer months, being cut down to 32.

Part time contracted staff will also be cut from 17 to nine.

There are also plans to open the estate six days a week instead of seven from March 22 next year and open nine days less than this year across the whole season.

The authority hopes to draft in more volunteers to help during the summer months.

The move is part of the second phase of work to plug a £1.4 million deficit. Last year the authority announced plans to cut full-time equivalent posts from 26.33 to 19.75, a move which bosses say has already helped bring the deficit down..
