A NEW synthetic floodlit pitch worth more than a quarter of a million pounds will put an Eccleshall school at the heart of the local community.

Bishop Lonsdale Primary School, saw the new artifical turf facility, suitable for football, rugby and hockey, installed as part of plans by Staffordshire County Council to invest nearly £1million in the school.

County Councillor Liz Staples, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills said the investment would ensure the school was fit for the future.

“The £280,000 spent on the synthetic pitch will not only benefit the school but the wider community too, as they will have the chance to use it,” she said. “All in all we feel this represents great value for money whilst also showing our commitment to investing in Staffordshire’s children and young people.”

Headteacher, Chris Middleton, said he was “delighted” with the new facility, adding that it would enhance the physical education of pupils as well as providing opportunities for sports groups never before seen in village.

He said:  “The school is always proud to be at the heart of the Eccleshall community and this is a facility that will greatly enhance our commitment to this.”

Groups interested in hiring the pitch can do so by contacting the school office on 01785 850388 or emailing office@lonsdale.staffs.sch.uk for further details and letting fees.
