Ombudsman call over plans for Westbridge Park

Written byKerry Ashdown

OBJECTORS to Stafford Borough Council’s development plans for Westbridge Park are considering reporting the council to the Local Government Ombudsman over the way a public consultation has been conducted.

Feelings on both sides remain strong in the wake of the consultation, which closed yesterday at 12pm.

More than 300 people attended public consultations on the plans, held in Barlaston, Eccleshall, Stone’s Christ Church Centre and Alleyne’s High School last week.

The council’s proposals include a new leisure centre incorporating a swimming pool and space in the park allocated for a new supermarket.

The council has stressed that there will be sufficient green space retained for popular events including Stone Food and Drink Festival and Stone Festival to continue at the park.

But Food and Drink Festival chairman Richard Stevens, who attended the Christ Church Centre event on Thursday, said the event would not be able to continue if the developments went ahead.
