MEMBERS of St Leonard’s Club could form a partnership to run it.
That is one of the ideas being mooted in the wake of the news that owners Alstom are closing the bar at the club.
Members have rallied to save the club, launching a petition and staging events to make money.
They also held a meeting on Monday to discuss the future of the club, which is £30,000 in debt.
Alstom has said the bar will close in seven-10 weeks and gaming machines will be removed although the room will still be available for hire.
Members heard the news at a special general meeting last month.
In its heyday the club had 1,500 members and attracted big-name stars including Ken Dodd and Bob Monkhouse.
But over the past couple of years it has struggled and in spite of staging regular events, including fairs and live music, it has failed to turn the situation around.
The club, in Alstom’s grounds, is also home to many sports and hobby groups including Stafford Harriers, Alstom Singers and Stafford Railway Society.
The club has not paid ground rent since 2010.
People are being urged to attend a lock-in from 9pm- 10pm on Friday, February 22 with live bands and a disco.
Several other events have also been planned.
