Penkridge choir members walk for organ fund

Written byBy Robin Scott

PENKRIDGE choristers walked from Lichfield Cathedral to St Michael and All Angels’ Church raising £1,600 towards repairing the church organ.

Members of the Organ Restoration Appeal Committee took on the challenging 21-mile walk, accompanied for the last seven miles by Stafford MP and patron Jeremy Lefroy, to raise funds towards the estimated £80,000 needed to restore the 125-yearold organ.

John Aldridge, chairman of the committee, said: “The organ is the focal point of our beautiful Grade I listed church and as there have been no significant changes to the organ since 1888, it is a very rare instrument that we want to preserve.”

The committee estimates it will take two years and a series of events to raise the total needed to restore the organ to its former glory.
