A FALL led to the death of a Rugeley pensioner an inquest heard.
Frank Price lived in the Nethermoor care home after having to leave the home he shared with his wife because he had developed dementia.
In September the 83-yearold was admitted to Stafford Hospital with a urinary tract infection. He was given anti biotics, had a catheter fitted and was discharged back to the home in Chaseley Road.
The inquest at Cannock coroners’ court heard Mr Price had a slight cough and was chesty.
On the day he was discharged his daughter was accompanying him to the toilet at the home when she stopped to talk to another resident.
Moments later she heard her father call for help and found him lying down on the floor in the toilet.
Paramedics were called and Mr Price was taken back to Stafford Hospital and readmitted.
A scan revealed he had fractured his left hip leaving him with limited mobility.
His chest infection developed into bronchial pneumonia and his condition deteriorated.
Doctors decided he was too ill to undergo surgery for the fracture and he died at 4.30am on September 27.
Dr Guy Hagan, a junior doctor at the hospital, gave the cause of death as bronchial pneumonia caused by immobility caused by the fracture.
His dementia and chronic renal failure also played a part, the inquest heard.
Staffordshire south coroner Andrew Haigh recorded a verdict of accidental death.
