Plans to convert waste ground

Written byGail Atkinson

PROPOSALS to convert a piece of waste ground to a community space have been welcomed by planners.

Some residents had been concerned the plans may lead to noise and parking problems at large gatherings but Ingestre with Tixall Parish Council said they wanted to tidy up the land and deter fly tipping.

The plans went before Stafford Borough Council’s planning panel yesterday.

Tony Young, a member of the council, said: “There are fewer than 100 residents in Ingestre. There’s no intention at all to provide a children’s play area.”

Ward member Frank Finlay said: “This is to enhance the site and not to turn it into a play area. They have readily come forward to say there will a restricted number of events.”

Councillor Bill Simpson said: “There are villages throughout the borough crying out for green space.”

The application, submitted by the parish council, was approved unanimously.
